Converting plain text fics to .epub

Hey guys! As I’ve entered the wonderful world of The X-Files fandom, I’ve encountered many wonderful old-school fics that are hard to read because they’ve been shared in plain text (.txt) format. I’m sure some of you know already how to convert them to easily-readable epubs, but I thought I’d share how I do it just in case anyone has been suffering through terrible formatting.

Basic tutorial under the cut!

The first thing you need to do is download Calibre. It’s a life-changing desktop app that allows you to edit ebooks.

Once you’ve got Calibre all set up, go ahead and download the fic you want to convert. I’ll show you here with the legendary Tempest, found on Gossamer.

#tempest tutorial | Explore Tumblr posts and blogs | Tumgik (1)

Gossamer has a handy download button, but not all of the old-school fanfic sites do. However, you can still download them as txt files using your browser. It’s different for every browser, but generally it’s under “file” and “export as” or “download page” or something.

Anyway, as you can see, once you download it as a .txt file, it messes up the formatting, making it incredibly annoying to read.

#tempest tutorial | Explore Tumblr posts and blogs | Tumgik (2)

To fix this, you’re going to drag and drop the file into Calibre to add it to your library. Select it, then click “Convert books” at the top. There are a lot of settings you can change, but most of the time, you won’t need to mess with any of them. Just choose “epub” as your output format (top right), click OK, and you’re good!

(This process also works for other file formats like pdfs.)

Once it’s done converting, double click on the title to preview the book and make sure it looks good. If it still has issues, you can try converting it again with heuristic processing turned on (it’s located on the left side of the conversion screen). The conversion process isn’t perfect, but it will take care of the most egregious formatting errors.

Next, click on “edit metadata” at the top and locate the original txt file under the list of formats at the top right. Select it, then click the little green recycling icon to delete it. You can also change the title, author, cover, and series info while you’re at it.

Finally, go back to your library, click “save to disk” at the top, and choose “save only epub format to a single folder” to save the epub file to your computer. From there, you can import it into your ebook app of choice. I use iBooks, so all I have to do is open the file on my computer and it automatically adds it to the library on my phone and laptop.

That’s it! Now you have a readable ebook.

#tempest tutorial | Explore Tumblr posts and blogs | Tumgik (3)

Let me know if you want me to add pictures of the process! I can’t guarantee I know the answers to any questions, but I’d be happy to try to help if you need it.

There’s also a Calibre plugin that allows you to combine multiple epubs into a single file. This is super helpful for fics with chapters uploaded separately. If anyone wants to know how to do that, let me know!

The Contestants Are Here!

Thank you for your patience, I'm now ready to announce our contestants for the Obscure Character Showdown! There are 300 characters, split up into 6 groups of 50.

Here's how the schedule will work: Day 1 is Group A Round 1 Part 1, Day 2 is Group A Round 1 Part 2, Day 3 is Group B Round 1 Part 1, Day 4 is Group B Round 1 Part 2, Day 5 is Group C Round 1 Part 1, and so on and so forth until we reach Group F Round 1 Part 2, and then the next day we'll fold back over for Group A Round 2. I'm splitting up the rounds because tumblr can interpret posting many polls at once as spamming, and each group contains 25 polls, so. 13 one day, 12 the next.

I expect to start polls by Wednesday, May 31, but I may be a little later than that. I'll keep you updated.

The polls will be tagged with 'obscurecharactershowdown,' 'obscure poll,' and their group letter and round number.

Under the cut is the groups and matchups. Thank you all for your submissions, and I'm sorry if your submission didn't get in! If it was a submission for your OC, a mythological figure, a Real Life Thing, an album character, a commercial character, etc, then you may not be out of the running yet. Be patient, I have something else I'm working out!

Please don't come into my inbox, replies, dms, etc, and tell me that a character I chose isn't actually obscure at all. No one's media experience is universal, and from my own experiences, I picked to the best of my ability.

ещё один страшно любимый фандом и нежно любимый пейринг. триптих по джонлоку со стихами есенина ("чёрный человек") — буквально туториал как сделать стекло ещё стекляннее: добавь к нему русскую поэзию 🖤

eng: another one terribly beloved fandom and gently loved pairing. johnlock triptych with lines from sergey esenin poem "the dark man". literally a tutorial how to make angst even angster — add russian poetry to it 🖤

for those interested i'm giving translation of the used lines. (i'm not sure if this is the best variation 'cause i wasn't searching for one a lot but it's close enough)

bluish pic.

Friend, friend of mine, I'm gravely ill, I'm sickening. I’ve no idea what causes me such pain. Is it the wind Over empty wasteland whistling, Or alcohol denuding, Like an autumn grove, my brain?

“Listen, listen!” He rasps, staring me in the face, And ever closer bends To admonish me: “I don’t think I've ever yet seen A commonplace Rogue so needlessly plagued By insomnia”.

I would like to ask about your ocs and genshin au 🥺☝️

#tempest tutorial | Explore Tumblr posts and blogs | Tumgik (7)

THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU-

*Ahem* Anyway ૮꒰⸝⸝> ̫ <⸝⸝꒱ა-

You’re my first ask! So happy to make your acquaintance! Ive needed to get this out for a while so:

This all stemmed from me realizing that Mondstadt has such a small amount of story compared to the rest of the nations. It has minimal would building and little lore. I understand this is probably because it’s basically the tutorial nation but still-

I have a hardcore love for my baby🥹.

I only actually played Genshin for a little bit (and it was around the time Liyue was coming out) so all I had was Mond and it enraptured me.

It started also with me realizing the people of Mond (and Liyue as well) were stupid because the statues of their gods are RIGHT THERE but they can’t put two and two together with Zhongli and Venti starting next to them.

Mond is more cultish in this AU, worshiping Barbatos with a bit more vigor, as well as the fact that they do know Venti is Barbatos. I mean, who else would pay his tab? They give him the freedom of walking around without having to deal with his godly duties, because he graced them with the most freedom out of all seven nations!

Anyway-

Let’s start with the main OC!~

“Mein Herr Majesstät der Heilige Vater Ludwig Fritz Köhler von Leichenberg!”

Otherwise known as:

“My Lord the Holy Father Ludwig Fritz Köhler von Leichenberg”

(His name is Ludwig Fritz Köhler von Leichenberg if you couldn’t tell!)

Mrs. Ludwig is the High Priest for Mondstadt, the person all who aren’t affiliated with the knights respond to, and even then he’s technically above the knights in terms of power!

The High Priest is technically the highest rank in Mondstadt, all orders coming and going through him, as I believe Mond to be more of a Theocracy if anything, being run by an unnamed book about Barbatos that only the High Priest has access to.

The thing about this role is it makes the holder immortal. Every time an old Priest dies, a new one is hand picked from the church by Barbatos (Note: Only three of these Priests have existed, Ludwig being the current and longest holder of the title).

If I had to describe him, I’d say he’s a man who’d do anything in order to get on Barbatos’s graces, no matter the cost. He’s stricken on the rules of Mond, but enforces the fact that everyone should have their freedoms.

Due to his… less than idea childhood he’s a very sexually charged man. I’d call him hypersexual. He finds comfort in sex, though not in a healthy way, so please help him figure out other romantic ways to express himself! He is gay, and I personally believe he’d be with Varka if anyone. But he’s also Poly and has two hands!~

I won’t go into detail so I can get to the others, but have a few fun facts!

He calls close friends “Vögelchen” which means little bird, people in the clergy/city are called “Spatz” which means sparrow, and the children of Mond are “Spatzi” which is little sparrow!

He HATES Morax but can stand Zhongli. He just dislikes any other nation in general but Liyue gets the brunt of it.

He likes to say he got his Vision from kissing Barbatos. (He really fucked him but no one has to know-)

He can’t handle alcohol at all. A simple whiff of GRAPE JUICE is enough to get this man as though he drank 5 bottles of vodka with no breaks in between

Now onto:

Tempest Fae Gardian: Detleif!

He is…. A centaur! Big ole beefy centaur as well! And a sweetheart!

Detleif guards the divide between Mond and the Fae Wilds! (Which I will explain if request!) He more or less represents the Demi-human population in Mond, and his story quest would reveal the hidden nation of Demi-Humans!

Being a horse, he cannot glide nor climb, but he has a boost in running and in swimming!

He’s overall just a very jolly man who’s happy to be here, and is based off of German show horses! Specifically in the spring! He can hold a good solid…. Hundred pints of beer and is great friends with Ludwig!

(If you couldn’t tell, I worked a bit more on Ludwig compared to everyone else lol)

Some fun facts before we move on:

He didn’t gain his anemo vision with dead friend trauma :) (He got it from dead daughter trauma :3 )

He allows the children of Mond to ride on his back and braid flowers into his hair Repunzel style.

He often takes Venti home on his back when he gets too drunk to walk.

And finally (because I have at least 2 for each nation and I don’t want this to be to long):

Finn!

A winged Hilichurl! Who can speak! Wow!

In my AU, Ludwig decided to basically crusade the hilichurls into believing in Barbatos, and he met what was thought to be an extinct variant of churl, feathered!

You can actually find winged hilichurls in the manga, what panel? I can’t remember-

He’s a little bastard but he’s my little bastard :).

He has three bodyguards (two Mita and one Samachurl), because… you know… people kill churls of all kinds without hesitation (and I wouldn’t be shocked if people mounted their heads on walls honestly)

Some quick fun facts:

He’s taller and lankier than most, and actually looks down on most smaller characters (I’m looking at you Xiao)

Just like Ludwig, he fucking HATES Liyue; last time he went there, he was nearly killed

He has a bat like tail, it ends with a wisp, and all his fluff is slightly fluffier.

I’m going to stop here because I could go on and on but I don’t want to boar-d (hehe, get it?-) you. But if you have any questions feel free to ask! ૮꒰ྀི∩´ ᵕ `∩꒱ྀིა

welcome to the official "Noble rambles about Final Fantasy VII Rebirth" post wherein I get annoying about this behemoth of an experience

don't intend to talk much about story stuff here - tho I got a lotta thoughts about it so that might get its own thing later - but consider this a spoiler warning all the same; for gameplay and some story stuff

so just like to set a baseline here I wanna say I think this is a generational game and the biggest leap in quality I've seen a series take from one game to the other since maybe KH1 to KH2 - it's still got the same bones, but they've been rearranged and adjusted to the point of near perfection in a lot of spaces and while gameplay does still carry some flaws - lock on is still miserable, I'd argue they basically ruined Aerith lol - it's so sharp and addictive that I actually popped it back in yesterday to do the superboss stuff (which I think speaks to just how good I feel this game is since that superboss stuff is a real gauntlet lmao)

just about every character - aside from Aerith - feels really fun to play once u get used to them and I'd also say that Aerith is still fun to play with but it took so long to get used to her that I basically stopped using her outright well before the last few chapters lmao. they changed some stuff with her that I simply don't agree with and while there's some cool things in place of what was removed or changed it's just sort of not enough - she takes too long to charge ATB and can't do much without it now so she's kind of useless without a strong support setup around her which made me go "Ehhh. I wanna play as the cat again" or "Sure but what if I was Yuffie instead". I think the biggest thing is they took away the ability to hold the button down for her attack and made that tempest instead, with triangle being given to a ward shift that while neat I just never really used

but again even if she's been kinda nerfed I'd say everyone is just. so much fun. Cloud's still the great all rounder he was in Remake but they fixed the problem where bigger, aerial based enemies were basically gods by giving him proper aerial combat himself. when I first got hit with the tutorial for this in the demo prior to release I could have stood up and clapped that's how badly I'd hoped they'd do something for him

Tifa's still a stagger machine and yet feels even more necessary now thanks to that and just how quick she can be - but then Yuffie's even faster and is borderline broken which honestly rules. Barret's a lil less heavy and that makes him a lot more fun to control - I loved how grounded the cast was in Remake, but that heft just wouldn't work in Rebirth so I'm glad it was adjusted

meanwhile Red XIII is pretty solid - I didn't love him being so dependent on Vengeance Mode but after I'd learned his kit a bit more I'd say he was one of the more fun characters to play as. Cait Sith is really the only other new character u actually get to play as in this one and I can see why some have derided him/his gameplay but I honestly thought he was just as fun to play as as Red or Tifa or anyone else really - save maybe Cloud, who still has just a bit of an edge over everyone else - and I really loved how they integrated the fortune telling, casino style gameplay into his kit

it all just sort of flows really well in Rebirth that even Aerith and those that might be a bit wonky like Cait or Red end up feeling good when ya get into the moment and such. synergy moves are largely a really cool addition - don't think united refocus needed to take up so many slots lol - and I wish there were even more of them. the sidebar synergy stuff is also neat but I slowly stopped using it over the ~100 hours I played as a lot of em were just kinda difficult to properly pull off in combat

beyond just the gameplay - which is flashier than ever and brimming with character and quality alike imo - the game's just. something else to me

the music goes absolutely nuts and if this isn't soundtrack of the year I have no idea what possibly will be. it's visually stunning, the vocal performances are incredible across the board - especially Barret, who cemented himself as one of my favorite Square characters of all time with this one (but then, so did most of the cast tbh). it's so much more grandiose and higher in scale than Remake that I'd grown worried prior to release

so like. in truth I haven't played OG FF7 to this point - I sorta know what happens in that game, up to a certain and very popular point at least, but Remake is a very sentimental game for me for a lot of reasons so while I grew ridiculously hyped for Rebirth I'd wondered if I'd feel the same about it as I ultimately did with Remake - where I felt the game was this stunning, satisfying experience that does almost everything as well as it could with this grounded atmosphere and well threaded narrative with a strong, snappy mix of action and turn based combat. if I could even hope for it to live up to what was one of my favorite games of last gen, and of all time at this point

Rebirth lived up to my hopes and then some. the atompshere isn't the same as Remake's, which I loved, but it feels like the perfect evolution from the narrow, grungy alleyways of Sector 7, the tighter corridors of Shinra's construction, into this sprawling yet not entirely overwhelming open world that's varied so well from place to place that each ends up fairly memorable long before u even get close to finishing it out, every zone feeling both so wide and yet manageable, brimming with character and side content

that does bring me to my main complaint with the game tho - the side content kind of fucking sucks LMAO

the open worlds are gorgeous and carry some incredible musical tracks - Gongaga's a huge favorite of mine - buuuuuuuuut the stuff u actually do in them never really changes and grows pretty dull a good zone or two before the ending. it's a lot of Ubisoft open world stuff - towers, combat challenges, etc., with some variety thrown in via the protorelics (superboss related collectibles) but that's kinda not enough. even the more unique stuff to this game - like the lifespring scanning and the summon crystals - grow really stale and I wish they'd alternated the content from zone to zone a bit more. I think I was in Cosmo Canyon when I realized there'd be another zone and I was actively sort of dreading it lmao, mostly since I was doing just about everything someone could on a first playthrough

and I guess that's kind of not a huge complaint tho since like. ya don't gotta do it lmao. it's side content - but I wish it'd been. y'know. more good. I also wish the minigames weren't largely ass.

box buster's back from Remake and it's actually pretty fun, chocobo racing is solid enough, but most of the rest of the stuff is rough in some way or another - often in the controls, like the g-bike and 3D brawler. even the coliseum tournament stuff largely suffers from the bad difficulty problems that have imo long plagued the industry at this point - there's a few that are just infuriating and poorly designed and I'm unsure why the minigames as a whole were so hellish. as if the testers did too well and now we the casual players must pay the price for their sins (also the final side quest is related to the minigames and as of the most recent patch is bugged so while I've completed it, I haven't actually finished it 🙃)

and honestly for a while I thought all that would hold the game back for me. it's optional, sure, but it also makes up a good chunk of the game, to the point where the game's almost overstuffed with things to do, but it's kind of all shit with a few exceptions - Queen's Blood is crazy btw that needs to be a mobile thing or a real game asap - so that's gotta be a knock on things, yeah? and it totally is, but like. as I made my way through the final dungeon of the game and into the ending, I realized that it just. didn't matter

which would lead me into the story if I were going in depth on it here. I might later but to keep it somewhat vague - I loved it, and felt the pacing, twists and turns all really enjoyable. another solid evolution from things in Remake, with an ending that I genuinely adore even if things are a bit cloudy (I've got my theories - again, perhaps elsewhere). when I say the last few hours of this game shifted my opinion - which was already quite high! - even higher, I mean it. I understand why some don't like the story or the ending in particular, but I love everything they did and set up here and I'm ridiculously excited to see what comes next given just how much they managed to do with this game - tho I will say, if ya ain't onboard with the Remake project by this point I don't know if the narrative will sell ya on it given that it, naturally, does more than Remake did which ik was uh. somewhat controversial. lol

but yeah. I purposefully didn't deep-dive on Rebirth before launch save watching a few trailers due to spoilers and such so I kind of had no idea just how big it was gonna be - and even then, I don't think I could have guessed at how absolutely and utterly stuffed with content this game is. it's the first game of this gen that feels like it earns the increased price tag to me, that's worth the asking price as it's so much bigger and enthralling, so much more than I'd anticipated

which kinda sums up my feelings on Rebirth. that it's this massive game that kept me hooked for days on end, that constantly surprised and satisfied me even as my playtime steadily rose

I really, really enjoyed my near 100 hour playthrough despite the odds and ends bc I feel this is a near immaculate supergame that delivered on almost everything I'd hoped for an then some. it isn't perfect, there's some rough edges, but it does so much so well that it's impossible for me to view it as anything but this generational title that's both ridiculously good at its various peaks and sets up the final game in this trilogy to be another all-timer

so yeah I kinda liked it

Luna's Review: even if TEMPEST

#tempest tutorial | Explore Tumblr posts and blogs | Tumgik (9)

Official Summary:

In a world where witch trials and witch hunts are commonplace, a tragedy occurs.

Bolstered by the power to rewind time via death, the heroine Anastasia throws herself to the flames to save those she loves... and to achieve sweet revenge.

.

(SPOILERS) Luna's Thoughts:

I've decided not to bother with route discussion for this game, because aside from a choice of two characters at the beginning, the order is predetermined.

I'll say it right up front. This game made me angry. It is poorly written, with nonsensical mechanics and an arbitrary magic system. I was so excited based on the premise of this game and it's nothing but a let down the whole time.

The game starts by showing you what a poor, pathetic person Anastasia is. She's been locked up for years in a tiny room, picked on by her older stepsister and treated like garbage for her father for a reason which, by the way, is never explained. The game sort of implies it's because his new wife is a witch at the beginning, but nope, she's just a terrible person who doesn't like Anastasia. And her father is just cool with that...ok.

Then you get a try at the witch trial system, which I figured would be something like a tutorial for later, but again, nope. Nothing you choose matters here and Anastasia just decides killing herself is a better option.

Then you get another go, this time becoming engaged to Prince Conrad. For no reason whatsoever, he puts you in charge of the kingdom's finances. What? Anastasia is literally an uneducated shut-in who hasn't been out of her room in eight years. But let's put her in charge of the entire kingdom's financial documents?

Anyway, Anastasia then discovers Prince Conrad is doing bad things through the financial documents and we can't have that getting out, so she dies again. Eventually she goes back in time and gets to redo her past, this time breaking out of her tiny room and becoming a badass night. This is the only major move I enjoyed in this entire narrative.

This is about three hours into the damn game, btw, and you still have made zero choices. When you get to your first choice, which involves how you treat a rude man at a bar, again, it seems like a tutorial. The first choice you make dooms you to death. Then the game explains that you should go back and choose the other option.

Oh, ok, I thought. This is how the game teaches you that your choices have consequences in a visual novel. But again, NOPE. The second choice also kills you for some reason, and you have to go back yet again and choose a third option that has just appeared. Why do this?

This is the part of the game where you are introduced to the Scary Murder Clown, who is basically the lazy way that this game kills you if you make the wrong choice. To me, it felt like they wanted to add more "interactivity" by adding more choices but didn't feel like writing proper branches or coming up with actual ways that choice dooms you. So you just get Scary Murder Clown sometimes for no reason.

Finally, you get a choice of two characters, and you can pick either the Tyril I Lister route or the Crius Castlerock route. I picked Crius first and while the route itself was fine, in the end, he makes an absolutely baffling choice for seemingly no reason. (Jk I know the reason. It's to end the route lol.)

I never felt particularly attached to Crius because there isn't much depth to his character, apart from a mysterious disease that doesn't end up being a problem anyway due to a convenient plot twist.

Tyril's route was more interesting, and he was my all around favorite character because I love a tsundere. But again, he makes an absolutely stupid decision at the end for the express purpose of moving the game along.

Then you're shunted to Zenn's route before heading off to Prince Lucien's route and finally, to the end of the game. Neither one was remarkable so I remember very little about either of them, except Zenn is from Earth and Lucien is Good Boy McGoodBoy. Honestly, none of the characters bothered me that much, they were mostly fine.

What bothered me most is what I thought would be the most fun for me, the witch trials (or Carnival, as they call it here) ended up being a huge disappointment. I figured it would be a DanganRonpa-style logic game where you have to choose your ammo carefully, but the game actually has safety rails installed that make any choice pointless. For example, you're asked to decide which characters to investigate in a short period of time. If you pick the wrong ones, the game dead ends and you have to go back and pick the right ones. So what's the point of asking you to choose??

If you pick the wrong options during the witch trial, similarly, the game will correct you and let you try again. What. Is. The Point.

Not to mention the entire witch trial system is very silly. There are lots of stupid little rules that seem to have been created to make the game operate a certain way and move the story along rather than to create a cohesive system. If you wrote down all the rules in a list, they would seem arbitrary, confusing and often pointless. This was supposed to be a witch trial, not the Death Note.

And here is my absolute favorite (read: most loathed) part of all this. When you finish the regular game, you will have questions. So many questions. How does the game address this? There is a literal Q&A that you can go through to "tie up" all the loose ends. I use quotation marks because some of the answers do not actually answer the questions at all. For example, the Scary Murder Clown is not fully explained.

All in all, this game left me frustrated. The overall plot wasn't awful, but it's riddled with strange narrative choices and bad gameplay. It would have been a much smoother and less idiotic game if it ran like a regular visual novel.

All in all, I would not recommend this game. I know I'm in the minority and a lot of others liked it, but I don't see how anyone with common sense would enjoy even if TEMPEST.

Researching Arcade Games

Arcade games are, of course, games that work on arcade machines. Because of the variety of different machines, many have irregular/nonstandard controller systems, so they will be good to research for my own inspiration.

Game 1 - Centipede

youtube

Centipede is a 1981 shooter, where you control a little creature and must shoot a centipede as it slowly comes down the screen at you. The centipede is comprised of multiple sections, and if you shoot the middle, it splits apart and then you have two centipedes coming at you. When a segment is destroyed, it turns into mushrooms which must be destroyed to give you a clear shot. There are other insects which must also be dealt with while you fight the centipede, including spiders which move in all directions. The unique aspect is that the player is controlled by a trackball, giving them omnidirectional movement and more velocity acceleration than a joystick would allow for. I like this idea, and have tried similar projects where the player is controlled by the mouse rather than a keyboard. I'm not sure how it would translate to an 'alternative controller' though.

Game 2 - Tempest

youtube

This game is a geometric shoot-em-up, where you play as a spacecraft firing down a tunnel. It is rendered using the QuadraScan vector system that Atari was using at the time, creating a sense of 3D space. The main controller system is a spinning knob that can move the spacecraft onto the different sides of the tunnel, in a system somewhat akin to Run 3. The use of a knob instead of bumpers, buttons or a joystick once again makes use of velocity acceleration - you can move the knob a little and only move a single face around the tunnel, or move a lot for larger adjustments, all in the same amount of time. This fixes a frequent complaint when it comes to accessibility - people with motor skill problems cannot spam-click buttons - and makes a frantic game experience easier to control.

Game 3 - Star Wars (1983)

youtube

This is another wireframe-rendered arcade game. In this one, you play as Luke Skywalker during the trench run sequence from the movie, where you must destroy the Death Star. The aim is to survive for as long as possible, while you shoot down TIE fighters. The unique controller system this time is a yoke controller, the W-shaped sort of steering wheel used in aircraft. With it, you can control the pitch, roll and yaw of the X-wing in the game, providing a realistic spaceflight experience (at least, realistic to the logic of the films). I imagine it would be somewhat accessible, but I have always found that flight sims like this can easily cause motion sickness, but that is not something that a more generic controller input would remedy.

Game 4 - Half Life 2: Survivor

youtube

This is a lesser-known arcade port of Half Life 2, only distributed in Japan. Instead of a linear unbroken first person narrative, each major setpiece of the original Half Life 2 is made its own level, with tutorial pop-ups and cutscenes instead of the scripted sequences the game would usually have to convey information. Interestingly, the game has some cut content in it that the base game does not, such as the Combine Assassin enemy and Sniper Rifle weapon. The most interesting aspect, however, is the Taito Type-X+ machine that the game runs on. It has one joystick for moving, and one for looking and shooting, which somewhat replicates the functions served by the keyboard and mouse in PC games. However, there are also two floor pedals, which are respectively used for jumping and crouching. This is an interesting concept, and various game reviewers at the time praised it for getting the player to use their whole body to play, and not just their hands. This, however, does cause an accessibility problem, as if someone does not have movement of their legs for whatever reason, they cannot work the pedals, and thus cannot jump or crouch. This could be remedied by two extra buttons somewhere on the 'upper' control panel of the machine, but is otherwise an interesting experiment that did not catch on.

Conclusion

In terms of alternative controllers, arcade games have many different versions, that are mostly based on the type of game it is running. Driving games will have steering wheel setups, flight simulators will have yokes or flight sticks, but it is the more experimental controllers such as the use of rotating knobs or trackballs that I find interesting. The reason is that they provide a new method for a pre-existing input - for example, instead of using a joystick to go up and down, a knob can be turned. This sort of thought process, along with the hardware used, may be what I try and replicate if I make a video game for this project.

The Art of Storyboarding: Visualizing Ad Campaigns

In the transforming world of advertising, short-lived as flickered the candle flame and the competition pushing like tempest, the craft of storytelling shows its beauty as the torch of creativity. Invest in storyboarding, a pivotal tool that helps to materialize that intangible conceptual content into a noteworthy and picturesque story. And this article focuses on the in-depth research of storyboarding and icon LED display tutorials, where Apppl.combine integrates the magic of the creative industry.

What Is Storyboarding?

The essential aspect of storyboarding is its comparability to designing a somersault for a marketing strategy. The shape of the film unfolds into different episodes, each of which is a generator of a leading scene, emotion, or message—a timeline that inspires the creative process. The cleverness of this approach is that by experimenting with every frame, the other factor is the amount of time spent shooting individual frames, which makes it possible for advertisers to convey their vision.

The Anatomy of a Great Ad Campaign

Before we dive into the nitty-gritty of storyboarding, let’s dissect the structure of a successful ad campaign:

The Hook: To start the whole series with a bang, or what is called the opening—the moment that interests you as much as you hope it will interest the viewer. The hook is the witty tagline, a persuasive picture, or an intriguing opening shot. Every business wants its products and services to attract buyers.

The problem: Introduce a relatable challenge or pain point. This is where empathy comes into play—the audience should nod in agreement, recognizing their own struggles.

The Solution: Enter your product or service as the knight in shining armor. How does it solve the problem? Highlight its unique features, benefits, and transformative magic.

Combat Rebuttals: Anticipate objections. Address common doubts or misconceptions. Build trust by being transparent and forthright.

The Call to Action (CTA): The crescendo! Encourage action—whether it’s clicking a link, making a purchase, or signing up. The CTA should be crystal clear, urging viewers to take that next step.

Creating Your Storyboard

Now, let’s roll up our sleeves and immerse ourselves in the art of storyboarding:

Understand Your Ad’s Structure: Whether you’re working with a script or starting from scratch, grasp the fundamental structure. How do the five components fit together? Which shots belong to each segment?

Craft a Shot List: Detail every shot. From close-ups of products to sweeping aerial views, list them all. Imagine your storyboard as a visual symphony, each shot contributing to the overall harmony.

Set Up Your Commercial Storyboard: Use tools like StudioBinder to create your storyboard. Choose your aspect ratio, specify shot details, and let your creativity flow. Each panel becomes a canvas for your vision.

Customize Each Shot: Dive into the specifics. Describe the shots, define subjects, choose shot sizes, and decide camera movements. This is where the magic happens.

Apppl Combine’s Creative Journey

Now, let’s shine a spotlight on Apppl Combine, a trailblazer in the advertising landscape. Their storyboards breathe life into campaigns:

Vibrant Visuals: Apppl Combine’s storyboards burst forth with color, capturing attention instantly. From neon-lit cityscapes to sun-kissed beaches, their frames evoke emotions and curiosity.

Typography Mastery: Words matter. Apppl Combine crafts typography that dances across panels—bold, elegant, or playful, depending on the brand personality.

Immersive Imagery: Their shots transport viewers. Whether it’s a tantalizing close-up of a product or a sweeping drone shot, the imagery resonates, leaving an indelible mark.

Conclusion:

In the grand theater of advertising, storyboarding assumes the director’s chair. It aligns creativity with strategy, ensuring that every frame contributes to the symphony. So, fellow marketers, pick up your digital pencils, sketch your vision, and let the magic unfold.

Ready to transform your brand’s narrative? Reach out to Apppl Combine today. Let’s create ads that linger in hearts and minds.

Made my old cleric to test out unique tav. Of course, the fish lad tail he has isn't at all visible in any of these but oh well.

Real cairn should have longhorn style horns, too, but I liked these stylistically, the laden down with shiny things works for my little tempest domain pirate. He also can't have the right god cause deep sashelas isn't an option. Do not remember what deity I picked.

I changed his eye color immediately after tutorial area, cause I just completely forgot in initial creation. They're pinky/purple now, and I gave him snake bites for good measure.

#i think i picked selune#but i'd have to check#if i didn't i am stupid enough that i might remake him just to do that honestly#i imagine a selune character should get a lot of extra shit with shart

engage trial tower

I wasted over an hour doing a boring af tempest trial and got NO XP FOR IT 😭😭😭 the tutorial said it would award xp so I didn't notice the little box when I was selecting the difficulty that said there was no xp... it doesn't change no matter how high I put the level so I think it's just because I'm on maddening. those battles were so boring I like don't even want to play anymore this evening lol
